My Approach

I offer a relationship-led therapeutic experience within a safe environment, where my clients can gently move towards feeling open enough to explore their thoughts and feelings. I honour the fact that we are all unique and deserve an adapted therapeutic approach, rather than being shoe-horned into one particular theoretical model.

“Therapy should not be theory driven, but relationship driven” Irvin Yalom

Centred at the core of how I work is my relationship and connection to my clients. Without this commitment, the therapeutic journey and trust will struggle to emerge. Essentially, it is two people in a room, seeking to gain meaning. Although I have the extensive theoretical knowledge to assist me in this evolving process, it is the connection to my clients that is most vital.

“The shoe that fits one person pinches another. There is no recipe for living that suits all”. Carl Jung

I believe that it is vital to tailor an individual therapeutic approach for each client due to the infinite diversity of their needs, and this perfectly sums up the integrative mode of working.

With this individual uniqueness, practicing integratively allows me to draw on many traditions of psychotherapy such as; existential, psychodynamic, client-centered, cognitive, Gestalt therapy, Jungian, object relations theories and transactional analysis, with the transpersonal always being present in my work. (click on the types of psychotherapy for further information.)

And how do these different ways of working effect you when in a session with me? They seamlessly and invisibly sit in the background of my client work, with our relationship at the forefront. They merely act as a guide to me and can be viewed as the map, rather than the terrain.

‘The most strongly enforced of all known taboos is the taboo against knowing who or what you really are behind the mask of your apparently separate, independent, and isolated ego’. Alan Watts

In this fast-paced technology-driven world, it has become easy to lose sense of who we truly are (or were). The word “transpersonal” loosely translates to beyond the persona, or beyond the mask. It is my role to help you discover the barriers that have got in the way of you connecting to yourself, allowing you to go beyond the persona (mask) and get closer to your true potential.

"An empty lantern provides no light. Self-care is the fuel that allows your light to shine brightly".

Quite simply, like you, I am on my own journey and this will always be the case. I embrace self care in my own life, striving to understand more about myself and this world, which allows me to work at a deep level and give absolute commitment to my clients.
